India Post GDS Bharti 2026: The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has released the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 notification for recruitment to Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak posts. The notification is dated 20 August 2026 and invites eligible candidates to apply through the official GDS Online Engagement Portal.

Educational Qualification
Educational qualification for engagement of GDS is Secondary School Examination (SSE) pass certificate of 10th standard with passing marks in Mathematics and English conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories in India. The candidates having equivalent qualification from any other board are not eligible to apply for engagement as GDS.
The applicant should have studied the local language at least up to 10th Standard from a recognized board. The details of post-wise local language prescribed by the Department is given in Advertisement Annexure-III.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 18 years, while the maximum age is 40 years. Age relaxation is available as per government rules. SC/ST candidates receive 5 years, OBC candidates 3 years and PwBD candidates up to 10 years of relaxation, with additional provisions for combined categories.
India Post GDS Salary 2026
Selected GDS candidates receive Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable allowances.
The notified TRCA slabs are :
- Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 – ₹29,380
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)/Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 – ₹24,470
Selection Process – India Post GDS Bharti 2026
One of the most important points for applicants is that the GDS selection process is merit-based. There is no conventional written examination or interview for the GDS engagement. Shortlisting is based on the candidate’s Class 10 marks through a system-generated merit list.
